European Higher Education for the World 2 - Studies on international students' mobility and brain gain

Dear Mundus student,
We would like to ask you to fill in the following questionnaire consisting of 10 questions.
This is a survey under the Mundus Action 4 project: "European Higher Education for the World 2 – Studies on international students’ mobility and brain gain" and is intended to identify Mundus students’ plans. Along with this survey we are working on a documentary film and book presenting careers of Mundus alumni. Knowing Mundus students plans and prospects for future after graduating from the Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses and documenting alumni’s careers is crucial for setting Mundus policy. Especially for improving the operation of the Programme in terms of its impact on obtaining jobs, which are high-paid and in line with the Mundus alumni’s qualifications. So please be so kind and share your ideas about your plans and expectations. The survey is anonymous and we will publish only aggregated data.

In first three questions we would like you to recall yourself from the time before studies in the European Union – what did you think during the time of application about your prospects and what were your initial intentions prior to going abroad.

1. In the time when you were applying for Mundus scholarship did you intend to return home after completing studies to work or to involve in social activities in your country with the use of knowledge and skills that you had expected to obtain from your Masters Course?

* Brain drain - the situation when: 1. educated in the country skilled specialists emigrate searching for better life, wages and career development conditions , escaping from a troubled economy or difficult political situation or when 2. individuals who studied abroad, completed their education and do not return to their home country.

9a. If yes – in what specialisations/ sectors the brain drain has the most negative effect in your country? What are the social and economic effects? What are the particular reasons of emigration?
